In brief

The 77-year-old monarch hopes to recuperate in time for Remembrance Day ceremonies.

Queen Camilla has canceled her upcoming royal engagements this week as she battles a chest infection, as confirmed by Buckingham Palace on Tuesday. The 77-year-old wife of King Charles III will not be attending two scheduled events, including one at Westminster Abbey, on Thursday. In a statement, palace officials noted that the Queen “is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest.” She expressed her apologies to those affected by the canceled engagements and hopes to recover in time for Remembrance Day ceremonies this weekend, which honor fallen members of the armed forces. At present, Camilla is resting at home under medical supervision. This news comes amid a challenging year for the royal family, marked by health struggles. King Charles recently disclosed his own cancer diagnosis, returning to public duties just a few months later, while Catherine, the Princess of Wales, has also been receiving treatment for cancer and has resumed some public appearances. These simultaneous health issues have brought Queen Camilla to the forefront, as she has taken on extra duties during this trying time. The royal couple just returned from a royal tour that included visits to Australia and Samoa, where they faced adverse weather conditions during certain events. Despite her absence, King Charles continued with his royal responsibilities today, including a scheduled audience with Qatar’s new ambassador to Britain.
