In a recent announcement on social media platform X, Elon Musk shared that his role leading President Donald Trump's cost-cutting initiative, known as Doge, is approaching its conclusion. Musk served as a "special government employee," which permitted him to engage with federal responsibilities for up to 130 days each year. As Trump's inauguration date of January 20, 2023, fell within this window, Musk is set to exhaust his designated time by the end of May.

Musk's departure from the role follows his public dissatisfaction with Trump's "big, beautiful" budget proposal, labeled as a critical component of the administration's economic strategy. In his statement on X, Musk remarked, "As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending," asserting that the mission of Doge will continue to grow and become integral to government operations.
