Arrest Warrant Issued for Boxer Julio César Chávez Jr. Amid Crime Allegations

Julio César Chávez Jr., a celebrated boxer and son of a boxing legend, has been issued an arrest warrant by Mexican authorities for alleged ties to organized crime. His detention follows a recent high-profile fight, raising concerns about his immigration status and connections to the Sinaloa Cartel.

 

Mexican authorities confirmed on Thursday that they have issued an arrest warrant for renowned boxer Julio César Chávez Jr. The 39-year-old's charges include involvement in organized crime and arms trafficking, which surfaced following his detention by U.S. immigration agents in Studio City, California.

The Department of Homeland Security stated on Thursday that Chávez was detained after Mexican authorities informed them of the existing arrest warrant. Mexican officials revealed that the warrant had been issued in March 2023, coinciding with reports that Chávez was in the U.S. illegally. This came shortly after he had fought and lost to former YouTuber Jake Paul in a widely publicized boxing match in Anaheim, California.

Chávez, a former World Boxing Council middleweight champion, reportedly entered the U.S. on a B2 tourist visa that expired in 2024. Following the expiration, he filed for permanent resident status through his marriage to a U.S. citizen. However, U.S. authorities noted that this spouse had prior connections with the Sinaloa Cartel, linked to Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán's son.

The Department of Homeland Security has also alleged that Chávez has affiliations with the Sinaloa Cartel, a notorious crime organization that has been the target of increased law enforcement scrutiny in both Mexico and the U.S. As the legal proceedings unfold, the implications of Chávez's arrest and its connection to organized crime are expected to draw significant public and media attention.
