The incident occurred while Lawal, 29, was visiting a Tanzanian friend, Omary Naima, who had stepped away to prepare tea just before the fall. Emergency services rushed him to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Lawal had been a key player for Uganda's Vipers Sports Club since July 2022, after spending two years with AS Kigali in Rwanda. The club expressed deep sorrow for the "untimely passing" of Lawal, who they described as a generous individual with a heart of gold. Fellow players and teams, including his former club Nasarawa United from Nigeria, expressed their grief and paid tributes to Lawal, highlighting his kindness and passion for the sport.
