A woman accused of posing as a registered nurse has been arrested after treating over 4,000 patients in Florida.
A woman in Florida has been arrested for allegedly impersonating a registered nurse and providing medical care to over 4,400 patients. Autumn Bardisa, 29, was taken into custody following her termination by AdventHealth Palm Coast Parkway due to suspicions about her professional qualifications.
An investigation initiated by the police revealed that Bardisa had worked at the hospital from July 2023 to January 2025, during which she reportedly treated 4,486 patients. The Flagler County Sheriff, Rick Staly, described the case as "one of the most disturbing cases of medical fraud we've ever investigated."
Bardisa is accused of submitting falsified documents, including a nursing license that belonged to another nurse with the same first name but employed at a different location. When questioned about the discrepancy, she claimed to have recently changed her surname due to marriage, but failed to provide any marriage records.
In January, Bardisa was recommended for a promotion, but a colleague raised concerns about her expired nursing assistant license, prompting an official report to the authorities. The subsequent investigation lasted seven months, revealing Bardisa's extensive deceit which led to charges of practicing a healthcare profession without a license and fraudulent use of personal identification information.
On August 5, while wearing scrubs, Bardisa was arrested at her home, now facing multiple charges. Sheriff Staly expressed grave concerns about the implications of her actions, noting that "this woman potentially put thousands of lives at risk" by breaching trust with patients and the medical community. The Sheriff's office has established a dedicated email address for potential victims to come forward regarding their treatment by Bardisa. Currently, she remains in custody at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility, held on a bond of $70,000.
