**Group of defendants dubbed “grandpa robbers” sentenced for their roles in celebrity jewelry theft.**
Eight people were convicted by a Paris court on Friday in relation to the infamous robbery of reality television star Kim Kardashian that took place nearly nine years ago. The high-profile incident occurred during Paris Fashion Week in October 2016, when Kardashian, 44, was held at gunpoint, gagged, and tied with zip ties, as robbers stolen jewelry valued in the millions from her luxury rented residence.
The court found seven men and one woman guilty, with charges varying from direct participation in the robbery to lesser charges of complicity. Sentences ranged from three to eight years in prison, though most were suspended. Presiding judge David De Pas remarked on the leniency of the sentences, considering the advanced age and health issues of many defendants, stating, “You did harm.”
In addition to the eight convicted, a ninth individual was found guilty of illegal firearm possession, but was acquitted of any direct involvement in the robbery. A tenth defendant was fully acquitted due to insufficient evidence. The main suspects were nicknamed the “grandpa robbers” by the press, highlighting their elderly age, most being in their 60s and 70s, making the robbery one of the most audacious celebrity heists in modern French history.
