The Israeli military targeted operatives reportedly involved in attacking Druse civilians amidst two days of clashes that resulted in numerous fatalities. The violence that prompted Israel's intervention has been raging around the town of Ashrafieh Sahnaya, situated south of Damascus. The Syrian governor of the region, Amr al-Sheikh, disclosed during a press conference that the airstrike resulted in one death among Syrian government security forces and another civilian casualty. While the Israeli military did not specify the identity of those targeted, it has been confirmed that pro-government fighters have been engaged in fierce confrontations with Druse militiamen. The aftermath of these clashes has been devastating, with the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reporting at least 39 fatalities, including 22 lost on Wednesday alone. Many in Israel's substantial Druse community view themselves as loyal citizens and notably participate in the country's military.Israel has issued stern warnings to Syrian government forces regarding further escalations if the violence does not cease. While the situation around Damascus remains volatile, the international community closely watches as developments unfold in this complex, multi-faceted conflict.
