Local police have taken serious steps following the incident by sending the remaining cake for analysis and conducting searches at the baker's residence, where they unearthed several out-of-date food items. Notably, the baker, who also consumed two slices of her cake, recorded the highest levels of arsenic in her blood but is not currently regarded as a suspect.
Similar samples of arsenic have been detected in a 10-year-old boy present at the gathering, who remains hospitalized alongside the baker. The authorities are also exhuming the body of the late husband of the baker, who passed away under circumstances linked to food poisoning just a few months prior.
Police chief Marcos Vinicius Veloso revealed that some attendees noted an unusual "peppery" taste in the cake, which may provide essential context to the investigation.
