In brief

Eintracht Frankfurt announced that Joti Chatzialexiou, who leaves his role as chief of staff at 1. FC Nuremberg, will become the club’s sporting executive. The 50‑year‑old signs a contract through June 2030 and will focus on youth development and operations. The decision follows discussions about the club’s future strategy and the need to build a strong technical base amid recent coaching changes.

Eintracht Frankfurt announced on Monday that Joti Chatzialexiou will take over as the club’s sporting executive, a role he will assume on 1 February 2027 after leaving his position as chief of staff at 1. FC Nuremberg.

Chatzialexiou signed a three‑year contract that runs until 30 June 2030, with a release clause in place that allowed him to join Frankfurt after extending his Nuremberg contract in August.

Background

At Nuremberg, the 50‑year‑old oversaw player development and was instrumental in hiring former Germany international Miroslav Klose as head coach. His tenure there began in 2024, following more than two decades of service with the German Football Association, most recently managing national teams.

Before his time in Nuremberg, Chatzialexiou had a longstanding relationship with Frankfurt, having coached several of the club’s youth teams and thereby establishing a connection that has deepened over the years.

Club Reaction

Mathias Beck, Frankfurt’s president and supervisory board chairman, said the club had "a perfect fit" in Chatzialexiou. "With Joti Chatzialexiou, we are gaining someone who is an excellent fit for our club, both professionally and personally," Beck told Xinhua. "He stands for great professional expertise, clear ideas and a consistent commitment to developing young players."

He also noted that Chatzialexiou will maintain his responsibilities at Nuremberg until the start of his new role, ensuring a smooth transition between the two clubs.

Strategic Implications

Frankfurt currently sits third in Germany’s second division, and the appointment signals a continuation of the club’s focus on youth and professional expertise. The move comes amid a broader conversation about the club’s technical direction as it looks to strengthen its competitive position in the upcoming season.

While the club has not yet released a detailed roadmap for Chatzialexiou’s initiatives, it is clear that player development will remain a priority as Frankfurt seeks to reinforce its squad depth and build on recent successes.
