The White House has defended US President Donald Trump after he aimed an offensive gesture at a heckler during his appearance at a Ford factory in Detroit. Footage of the incident published by TMZ appears to show the president responding to a man who shouted at him from afar.

The White House stated: 'A lunatic was wildly screaming expletives in a complete fit of rage, and the President gave an appropriate and unambiguous response.'

The heckler has been suspended by Ford, confirmed the United Auto Workers union. A Ford spokesperson expressed that they conduct themselves with respect and do not condone inappropriate remarks within their facilities.

According to reports, the heckler called Trump a 'paedophile protector,' a remark in reference to Trump's ties with Jeffrey Epstein. The president has faced significant pressure to be transparent regarding investigations involving Epstein. Despite the relationship, Trump has not faced accusations of wrongdoing associated with Epstein.

Trump was visiting Detroit to speak at the Detroit Economic Club. This incident adds to the list of public controversies surrounding Trump's use of explicit language, resonating with similar occurrences from his predecessor Joe Biden during his own factory visit in 2020.
