US Resumes Strikes on Iran Amid Strait of Hormuz Escalation

American forces launched a second wave of air strikes against Iranian targets on Tuesday, according to U.S. Central Command. This follows the first known U.S. operation on late‑July when U.S. aircraft hit two rocket launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz.

Centcom said the strikes began at 12:00 ET (16:00 GMT) and targeted Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) installations. The U.S. blamed the IRGC for “recent attempted attacks” against commercial shipping in the Strait and against U.S. service members stationed in the region.

Iranian state media reported at least four projectiles hit Chabahar and Konarak counties. The semi‑official Tasnim agency said explosions were also heard on Qeshm Island, Konarak and Bandar Abbas.

President Donald Trump confirmed the “large and powerful” strikes, warning that “a much harder and higher level” retaliation would follow if Iran retaliates. He claimed Iran’s attempt to lay sea mines in the Strait had failed and that “there will be very little left of the Islamic Republic of Iran” after a decisive response.

The IRGC spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi expressed that severe punishment would await the U.S., stating that the country would regret the new attacks.
