BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A University of Alabama at Birmingham football player was arrested following an alarming incident early Saturday morning, where he allegedly stabbed two teammates just hours before the team was set to face off against the University of South Florida. The incident took place on campus at the Football Operations Building, according to a statement released by the university.

Fortunately, both players who were stabbed are reported to be in stable condition, and the suspect is now in custody. The university has opted not to disclose the names of those involved, focusing instead on the well-being of its students and athletes.

Despite the incident, the UAB football team made the decision to continue with their game at Protective Stadium, scheduled for later that afternoon. This game was especially significant as it also coincided with Senior Day, a day dedicated to honor 29 senior players.

UAB’s top priority remains the safety and well-being of all of our students, the statement reassured, highlighting the university's commitment to maintaining a safe sports environment. As the situation develops, further details regarding the incident are anticipated.
