Former President Donald Trump announced a severe economic crackdown against any nation that aids Iran, declaring it the most crushing economic operation ever.
In a Truth Social post, Trump warned that states allowing their banks, businesses, airports or government entities to provide any support to Tehran will face tremendous economic consequences.
The threat comes after a 60‑day ceasefire between the United States and Israel and Iran expired, with no clear diplomatic or military resolution in sight.
Trump’s move extends the sanctions framework of "Operation Economic Fury" launched in April, which targets foreign banks and firms dealing with Iran.
He called for a halt to oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries and front companies, urging affected countries to stop immediately.
The Treasury Department, led by Secretary Scott Bessent, has said the U.S. will impose unprecedented economic isolation on Iran, but no official comment has yet been made by the White House.
BBC has appealed to the White House and Treasury for comment on the President’s bold declaration.
