A 69-year-old Japanese tourist, identified as Morimasa Hibino, has tragically died after falling off a perimeter wall of the Pantheon in Rome. Local media reports indicate that Hibino fell from approximately seven meters (22.9 feet) around 21:50 local time.
A priest passing by the site noticed Hibino lying in a ditch and promptly alerted the police. Emergency services encountered difficulty gaining access as they had to force open a gate outside the ancient structure. Unfortunately, they found the man already deceased.
Initial investigations suggest that Hibino was sitting on the edge of the wall when he lost his balance and fell. Authorities are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the area to gather further information regarding the incident.
The Pantheon is a popular tourist attraction in Rome, receiving millions of visitors annually. The Italian authorities have launched a formal investigation to determine the circumstances leading to this unfortunate event.
