Tragedy Strikes Tumbler Ridge: Remembering the Victims of Recent Shootings
A devastating event unfolded in the small town of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, where eight individuals lost their lives in two shootings — one at a local school and the other at a home. The Victims
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has confirmed the identities of several victims related to this heartbreaking incident.
Jennifer Jacobs and Emmett Jacobs
Among the deceased is 39-year-old Jennifer Jacobs, the mother of Jesse Van Rootselaar, the suspected shooter. Also deceased is her 11-year-old son, Emmett. This family had a troubled past, previously moving around Canada before settling in Tumbler Ridge. Both died as a result of the shooting incident, with Jesse found at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Kylie Smith
Another victim was 12-year-old Kylie Smith, who was shot at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School. Remembered as a bright and talented young artist, Kylie's family expressed their grief, highlighting her love for family and education.
Abel Mwansa
12-year-old Abel Mwansa was another innocent victim, revered for his smile and passion for science. His father lamented the loss, calling it heart-wrenching to lose a child to such violence.
Zoey Benoit

Shannda Aviugana-Durand
39-year-old Shannda Aviugana-Durand worked at the same school where the shooting took place. The BC General Employees Union acknowledged her contributions and expressed their condolences to her family.
Other Victims
Several other victims included Ticaria Lampert (12), Ezekiel Schofield (13), and Maya Gebala (12), who is currently fighting for her life after being injured in the attack. Maya is remembered as a bright and athletic young girl who enjoyed sports.
