Two teenagers have been seriously injured after a sword attack at Brinell School in Fagersta, Sweden, authorities confirmed.
Police were called to the high‑school after 14:00 local time (13:00 BST) on Friday, arresting one man on the scene.
A third victim was wounded and the full extent of injuries remains unclear; local reports suggest the suspect was shot in the leg by police.
Eight nearby schools were temporarily locked down, a statewide high alert was declared in the Vastmanland region, but the danger to the public has been ruled out.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson labeled the incident a “serious event” and said police are working “intensively” to uncover motives.
The school, hosting just under 500 students, reopened after the investigation, with the new term set to begin this week.
Sweden has faced a series of school attacks recently, including last year’s worst‑ever mass shooting at an adult education centre in Orebro, which led to tighter gun legislation.
Earlier assaults on schools in Malmö (2022) and Trollhattan (2015) have also prompted national security reviews.
