Sophia Laforteza steps away from Katseye amid mental‑health concerns

K-pop group Katseye’s lead vocalist, Sophia Laforteza, has announced she will temporarily step away from the band to focus on her mental wellbeing.

The announcement follows a similar move by fellow member Manon Bannerman, who went on hiatus less than six months earlier. Katseye—known for global hits such as "Gnarly" and "Pinky Up"—has announced it will continue performing with four remaining members while Sophia takes time to rest and seek professional care.

“We understand how much EYEKONS were looking forward to seeing Sophia on stage, but it is imperative that her mental health and wellness are prioritized,” HYBE × Geffen Records told the press. The label added that the singer is receiving the utmost support from medical professionals and has been advised to dedicate time for “extended rest and ongoing care.”

In an Instagram update, Laforteza explained, “Making this decision wasn’t easy, but I’m learning that health has to come first. If I don’t take care of my mind and body now, I won’t be able to keep doing what I love the most for so long,” adding that she plans to “work as hard as I can to heal and come back stronger.”

The group, formed in 2023 with six members, has faced online death threats and robust scrutiny from social media audiences. Despite these pressures, Katseye continues to promote its music, with the label noting that Sophia’s condition will be reassessed in September. For now, the ensemble remains committed to maintaining its global presence while caring for the wellbeing of its members.
