Russian Drone Hits Ukrainian TV HQ in Kyiv, Killing Five

A Russian drone struck the building that houses Ukraine’s independent TV channel "We are Ukraine" in the capital, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. The attack collapsed parts of the newsroom, killing five people and injuring several journalists who were broadcasting live.

The strike came as a series of raids, with overnight missile and drone attacks inflicting casualties across Kyiv. Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said at least 24 people were injured and three killed in 16 explosions from midnight to noon.

The headlines that “Russia carried out a strike on the media” were confirmed by footage released by the channel, which claimed the drone hit was deliberate and not accidental.

President Zelensky has called on European allies and the United States to continue pressure on Russia, warning that this "new page in Russian degradation" demands joint action. A recent truce on attacks on each other’s capitals was suspended after talks with U.S. special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

Kyiv remains under heightened alert, with air raid sirens sounding more frequently than the peak of the 2022 invasion. Residents routinely shelter in underground metro stations during attacks – a scene captured recently by Reuters.
