CCTV footage from Rajasthan captured a startling moment when a leopard burst into a local liquor shop, immediately attacking a cleaning worker inside and later threatening a salesman on duty. Both employees were able to escape the shop’s confines after the predator lingered near the counter.
Neighborhood residents quickly closed the shop’s doors, trapping the animal within its own building. Following a tense, almost five‑hour standoff, the state wildlife officials arrived, tranquilised the leopard, and safely contained it in a specialised holding enclosure.
When the animal was fully stabilised, authorities released it back into the wild, a step that underscores ongoing challenges in balancing human safety with wildlife conservation. The incident, reported by BBC Hindi journalists Mohar Singh Meena and Purushottam Joshi, brings attention to the increasing frequency of wildlife encroachments into urban areas across India.
