In Massachusetts, a judge declared a mistrial in the murder case of former nurse Lindsay Clancy after jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict on whether she should be convicted of killing her three young children.
After more than 40 hours of deliberation over a week and six weeks of court proceedings, the jury could not agree on liability, forcing the judge to dismiss them.
Clancy, who cut herself with a knife and fell from a second‑story window after the killings, remains held on the same charges and continues to be housed in a mental‑health facility.
Prosecutors said they would review the evidence and decide whether to bring a new trial or negotiate a plea agreement, noting that the facts suggest Clancy had control of the murders.
The case attracted widespread media attention, with supporters and press in and outside the courthouse, and sparked debate over postpartum psychosis. Even President Donald Trump commented on the tragedy, calling it “horrible” and hinting at another trial.
A hearing scheduled for later this month will determine the next steps, leaving the case in limbo while both the defense and prosecution weigh their options.
