LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky family battling extreme cold on their farm opened their home to a newborn calf struggling in the deep freeze.

Hours later, the calf, fed and warmed, took a spot on the couch with the Sorrell family’s two children. Their mother, Macey Sorrell, took photos and posted them on social media, drawing attention for the cuteness.

The calf was born outdoors in single digit temperatures on Saturday. Macey Sorrell said her husband, Tanner, found the calf suffering in the cold while checking on the pregnant mother.

“She was just frozen. Her umbilical cord looked like a popsicle,” Macey Sorrell recalled. After losing a calf last winter to frostbite, the family acted quickly to help the baby.

“When we brought her in, she had ice on her. I had to clean her up and warm her using a blow dryer,” Sorrell explained. Soon after, the calf was found cuddling with her children on the couch.

“They crawled up next to her like it was just the most normal thing,” Macey said, with her son naming the calf Sally after a character in his favorite movie, “Cars.”

The Sorrell family manages about three dozen cows and often brings animals indoors when necessary. The following morning, Sally was reunited with her mother and is reportedly doing well.

Macey initially hesitated to share the photos, as bringing animals indoors is part of their routine, but the heartwarming moments captured the attention and affection of many online.
