In a heartbreaking incident on the set of the popular show 'Emily in Paris,' Diego Borella, a 47-year-old assistant director, has died while filming in Venice for the upcoming fifth season. Reports indicate that Borella collapsed in front of his colleagues at the renowned Hotel Danieli around 19:00 local time on Thursday. Despite the immediate response from medical personnel on-site, they were sadly unable to revive him.
A spokesperson for Paramount Television Studios, the producer of the series for Netflix, expressed deep sorrow over Borella's untimely death, emphasizing the profound impact he had on the production team. "We are deeply saddened to confirm the sudden passing of a member of the 'Emily in Paris' production family," stated the spokesperson to BBC News. The tragedy unfolded while the crew was preparing for a scene, and the show's medical staff made efforts to assist Borella, but alas, it was too late.
Filming was reportedly suspended temporarily as cast and crew grappled with the shocking news. "Our hearts go out to the individual's family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement concluded, highlighting the emotional toll on those involved in the beloved series.
'Emily in Paris' first premiered in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic and quickly gained a loyal following, thanks to its charming storyline and vibrant portrayal of life in Paris. Starring Lily Collins as American marketing executive Emily Cooper, the show has continued to explore her adventures, with the latest season transitioning from Paris to Rome to establish a new office.
The series also features a talented ensemble cast, including Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu, Ashley Park, Lucas Bravo, and Lucien Laviscount. The fifth season of 'Emily in Paris' is anticipated to debut later this year, though the recent tragedy serves as a somber reminder of the fragility of life, even amidst the glitz and glamour of television production.
