Joseph Duggar, a former reality TV personality known from TLC's '19 Kids and Counting,' has been arrested and charged with child molestation in Florida. The allegations suggest that Duggar engaged in lewd and lascivious behavior towards a girl under 12 years old during a family vacation to Panama City Beach when the victim was only nine.
The Tontitown Police Department relayed this information to law enforcement in Bay County, Florida, after a 14-year-old girl came forward with the accusations. Following the report, detectives arranged for the girl's father to confront Duggar, who allegedly admitted to the abuse during conversations recorded by the police.
Duggar, 31, was arrested in Arkansas where he resides, and is currently awaiting extradition to Florida. Official court records regarding his representation have not been located, implying he may not yet have legal counsel appointed.
This incident is part of a larger pattern of alleged misconduct within the Duggar family. Joseph's brother, Josh Duggar, was previously convicted for possession of images depicting child sexual abuse and is currently serving a lengthy prison sentence.
The Duggar family's reality show, which aired for years and focused on their unconventional lifestyle with 19 children, was canceled in 2015 following Josh Duggar's admissions of molesting his sisters as a teenager. The implications of his legal troubles cast a long shadow over the family's legacy, as each of the parents' actions continues to be scrutinized.
The Tontitown Police stated that their investigation remains active and ongoing as further developments unfold.
