Israeli Defence Minister Benny Gantz announced that a senior Hamas internal security official had been captured during a raid in Gaza City.
The raid was carried out by Israeli special forces and a pro‑Israel Palestinian militia, with insiders warning that the unit was exposed by local security forces.
At the same time, Israeli airstrikes killed two children and a woman, according to local medics; a third child died in a separate incident in central Gaza.
Gantz did not disclose the identity of the captured commander, but emphasized Israel’s policy of pre‑emptive action against Hamas terrorists and the destruction of their terror infrastructure.
Israeli officials confirmed strikes on “several” targets, citing the need to remove threats to their troops and stated no special‑forces casualties were reported.
The Gaza war began following a Hamas attack on Israel on 7 October 2023, which killed around 1,200 people and captured 251. Since then, the territory’s health ministry reports over 73,460 deaths.
The conflict is intensifying as Israeli forces continue operations near the Gaza‑Israel border, with Netiv HaAsara residents reporting ongoing activity.
