Houthis Fire Missiles at Saudi Airport After Sanaa Strikes

Yemen's Houthi rebels launched several ballistic missiles and drones at Abha international airport on Monday, citing Saudi-led coalition air raids on the capital's Sanaa airport as the catalyst.

Saudi air defences reportedly intercepted all incoming rockets, with the coalition claiming no casualties and affirming that defensive systems effectively neutralised the threat. The coalition’s spokesperson warned that these attacks would not go unanswered.

The Houthis accused Saudi Arabia of aggressive action, claiming the coalition struck the runway of Sanaa's airport to stop an Iranian plane from landing. The Yemeni government justified the strike, saying it aimed to prevent an Iranian aircraft from violating Yemeni airspace, following a dispute over a Houthi delegation returning from Iran for a funeral.

Social media footage captured smoke plumes above Sanaa after the strikes, while Al‑Masirah TV released footage of a Houthi delegation disembarking from the diverted Iranian plane at Hudaydah airport.

The incident marks the most severe escalation in the Yemen conflict since an informal truce four years ago, bringing renewed attention from the United Nations and the United Kingdom, both urging dialogue under UN auspices to avoid further security fallout.
