In a distressing update from Shreveport, Louisiana, a man identified as Charles Ford reported that an assault-style gun used in a recent mass shooting was stolen from his truck weeks prior to the tragic incident. Court documents reveal Ford's allegations against Shamar Elkins, who is acknowledged as the father of seven children killed in the rampage. According to the criminal complaint filed on Tuesday, Ford confronted Elkins about the missing weapon, but tension escalated, causing him to withdraw.
The fight for justice continues as federal charges against Ford are being pursued, stemming from claims of being a felon in possession of a firearm and false reporting. He reportedly initialed denied ownership of the weapon when questioned by authorities after the shooting. U.S. Attorney Zachary A. Keller stated, 'Elkins’ death means that our community will never see him face justice,' encapsulating the frustration and loss felt within the community.
Elkins reportedly died after leading police on a pursuit following the shooting. The rampage, which resulted in the tragic loss of eight children aged 3 to 11, also left two women injured. Investigators and community leaders are calling for more attention to accountability regarding gun ownership, emphasizing the need for better preventative measures against such tragedies.
