Caleb Flynn, 40, a former Ohio music pastor and 2014 American Idol contestant, was found guilty of fatally shooting his wife Ashley twice in her back while she slept on 16 February.


Flynn claimed burglars were responsible, but the jury delved into more than 100,000 text messages, phone activity logs, body‑camera footage and the disappearance of his gun to justify a conviction on aggravated murder and tampering with evidence.


The prosecution highlighted the angry, murderous tone of Flynn’s texts to former mistress Alleigha Botner, while the defense argued a lack of concrete evidence and an unlocated weapon weakened the case.


The trial, which lasted eight days, became viral when Botner performed an AI‑generated song in court, adding drama to the proceedings.


Flynn now faces life in prison without parole as sentencing looms.
