Family outrages over Bryan Kohberger’s shift on murder conviction

The family of one of the victims of Bryan Kohberger has condemned the former criminology student’s new challenge to his murder conviction, calling the judge "narcissist" and demanding that the case return to the facts.

Kohberger was sentenced last year to four consecutive life terms after pleading guilty to the murders of four University of Idaho students in November 2022. In a recent interview with the New York Times, he said he was taking back his plea, claiming it rested on false promises and misinformation.

"He never cried foul, never claimed he was uninformed or pressured, and never suggested that discovery materials he and his counsel reviewed for two years should have been challenged," the Goncalves family said in a statement.

The family also expressed that the media attention on Kohberger now overshadows the tragedy faced by the victims’ families.

Kohberger’s conviction remains a central point of debate, as the state Attorney General Raúl Labrador pledged to continue working toward justice, while the victims’ families mourn the loss of their loved ones.
