Eleven people were killed in Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon today, according to authorities.
The first strike hit a house on the outskirts of Ansar, 70 kilometres south of Beirut, killing seven civilians – including three children and two women – as reported by Lebanese state media. A second attack on the town of Deir al‑Zahrani later that day caused four more deaths and wounded five others.
Israel’s Defence Forces say it struck a Hezbollah commander after an attack on Israeli soldiers, stating the target was a legitimate military site. They added that the commander’s family was present and used as human shields, but the strike was aimed at the commander, not civilians.
The incidents come as the June ceasefire framework remains partially in place, with Israel still occupying about 5 % of Lebanese territory and negotiations scheduled for September.
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the attacks, describing the civilians as “not military infrastructure” and urging Israel to halt the escalation to protect Lebanese citizens on their land.
