German forces recorded two unidentified drones hovering above the Mechernich military base, situated close to Bonn, late Thursday evening.
The incident came just days after police uncovered a bomb‑laden drone at Leipzig/Halle airport, a key joint NATO and German military hub used by Ukraine.
Sources from the Bundeswehr Joint Force Command confirmed the sighting and said military police were called in before handing the case to local police.
The intelligence units are probing whether the drones were linked to the Leipzig incident, with German officials repeatedly alleging that hybrid warfare tactics are targeting the country.
America, Australia and other NATO allies rely on the Patriot missile batteries stored at the Mechernich depot to defend Ukraine against Russian ballistic strikes.
As Ukraine faces a shortage of interceptor munitions, the sighting underscores renewed pressure on the coalition to supply additional air‑defence aid.
