Dozens of Coordinated Arson Attacks Hit Southern Thailand

The Thai military announced that more than fifty coordinated arson and incendiary attacks were carried out across the country’s insurgency‑hit south, aiming to create unrest. Targets included a local government office building, a convenience store and several telecom towers.


Two people were injured when a bomb explosion in Muang district, Narathiwat province, detonated close to a vehicle. The military’s Internal Security Operations Command highlighted that the incidents occurred between 20:00 local time and midnight on Saturday.


While most attacks were concentrated in Narathiwat, Yala and Pattani also reported arson incidents. Authorities warned residents not to touch suspicious objects and imposed an overnight curfew in Narathiwat, lifted Sunday morning. No further attacks were reported on Sunday.


No group claimed responsibility, but the long‑running insurgency, primarily led by the Barisan Revolusi Nasional, has claimed over seven thousand lives since 2004. Recent escalations include a July gun and bomb attack that killed five soldiers at a checkpoint in Narathiwat, leading to the postponement of a planned dialogue.


Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and cabinet members will soon visit Hat Yai in Songkhla province to discuss investment projects, flooding prevention and security issues amid ongoing tensions.
