At least 22 people have been killed in a bus crash in eastern Egypt, the country’s health ministry stated.

Another 28 were injured on the stretch of road between the Red Sea towns of Dahab and Nuweiba in the South Sinai governorate a Wednesday morning.

Egyptian and Jordanian media reports say as many as 10 Jordanian nationals were among those killed. Several tourism agencies were called to the scene as the town is a popular destination for international visitors.

The cause of the crash remains unknown, and investigators are uncertain how many passengers were aboard at the time.

The ministry said all injured were being treated at three hospitals in the region, with medical teams coordinating the response.

Road accidents are a major safety issue nationwide, with nearly 6,000 deaths reported in 2025, largely due to reckless driving and poor roadway conditions.

Last month a separate collision involving two lorries in the north‑eastern Ismailia governorate killed 18 people and injured 30.
