Singapore Police have charged a 26‑year‑old British man who stole a blue denim jacket from a retail store in Changi Airport’s shopping mall in August 2024. The jacket, worth roughly S$350 (US$275 or £202), was discovered missing from a display mannequin on the evening of 14 August by a retail assistant.

Surveillance footage captured the suspect removing the jacket and leaving the store without paying. The police identified him shortly after the theft, only to find he had already departed Singapore by that time.

He was subsequently arrested on 15 August 2025 while in transit at the same airport, and was formally charged two days later. Under Singaporean law, non‑payment theft offences can carry up to seven years in prison.

The Singapore Police Force issued a statement emphasising the country’s zero tolerance for shoplifting, encouraging offenders not to think they could avoid detection by leaving immediately after the crime. The statement also highlighted a separate case involving a 50‑year‑old Polish woman who had been arrested in June for stealing two perfume bottles.
