Australia’s Foreign Minister Penny Wong is outraged after Israel decided not to pursue criminal charges over the death of Australian aid worker Zomi Frankcom in a Gaza airstrike.
Frankcom, who was operating with World Central Kitchen, lost her life alongside six other colleagues when their vehicle was struck by the IDF in April 2024.
Wong condemned the decision as “especially insulting” because it was announced on World Humanitarian Day, and she highlighted that Israel Defense Forces have already admitted procedural failures, mistaken identification and decision‑making errors in the operation.
Australia will keep pressing Israel for justice for Frankcom and the others, and will be “calling in Israel’s Ambassador” to convey Australia’s stance directly.
The government may also move support inquiries to appropriate international bodies, maintaining a stance that upholds humanitarian accountability in conflict zones.
