Armed Man Arrested Near Trump’s Golf Course Ahead of Presidential Visit
California police arrested 38‑year‑old Jeanine John Taele when he was seen near Trump National Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes, a location awaiting a fundraising dinner hosted by former president Donald Trump.
Taele was found with a loaded handgun and a 16‑round hollow‑point ammunition magazine, firearms that are prohibited under California law for excessive capacity. The sheriff’s department said the suspect was observed walking the grounds, taking photographs and appearing to monitor security operations.
Investigators later linked the suspect to a robbery in nearby El Segundo. Police searched the vehicle parked at the golf course, and, in a raid on his Downey residence, uncovered an illegally modified AR‑platform rifle, a .45 pistol, body armor, additional magazines, numerous bullets and notebooks containing “concerning statements.”
The arrest occurred in the afternoon of Sunday, the same day that Federal Plainclothes agents reported a suspicious person to local authorities at 1530 ET. While no credible threat to the president has been identified, authorities stated the precautionary action underscores their vigilance.
Trump is scheduled to attend the fundraising dinner on Tuesday and deliver a speech criticizing California Governor Gavin Newsom. The president’s rare visit to California follows a similar trip to Las Vegas where he spoke at a casino on Wednesday.
Security teams are reviewing protocols after several recent assassination attempts, including a shooting at a Washington hotel during a White House dinner.
