A sudden fire at a restaurant‑apartments complex in the Swiss town of Thusis has left five people missing and eight wounded, authorities say.

During the early hours of Thursday a fire broke out on the second floor of a restaurant that also housed apartments in Thusis. The blaze completely destroyed the building, forcing nearly 100 firefighters to respond and requiring a crane to open a collapsed stairwell. Five people are missing while eight others have been injured, with four severe, two moderate and two slight injuries reported. Police and prosecutors are investigating the cause of the fire, which is still under review.
