A blaze that broke out on the second floor of a restaurant‑apartments complex in the Swiss Alpine town of Thusis has left five people missing, eight injured, and the entire building destroyed, police say.
Sources report that the fire began just after midnight local time (22:00 GMT) and that nearly 100 firefighters rushed to the scene. Due to the collapse of the stairwell, rescuers had to open the roof with a crane to combat the flames.
Fourteen people escaped the building, with two sustaining serious injuries, two with moderate injuries, and four with minor injuries. The injured were taken to hospitals in Chur, Thusis, Ilanz and Zurich. Police and the public prosecutor’s office are investigating the cause of the fire.
The Graubünden region, popular for winter sports and summer hiking, was struck by the emergency, prompting authorities to call for community cooperation as investigations continue.
