In brief
In a playful escapade reminiscent of storybook adventures, Mish and Lucy, two five-year-old European brown bear siblings, managed to break free from their enclosure at a wildlife sanctuary in Devon, England. The duo quickly took advantage of their brief freedom, consuming a week's supply of honey within just an hour.
The playful bears, known for their gentle demeanor, were reportedly calmly enjoying fruits and nuts within their pen before their escape. Mark Habben, the director of zoological operations at the Wildwood Trust, was alerted to the situation after receiving a “code red” while at another sanctuary location. Initially suspecting it was a drill, he quickly mobilized the staff to ensure the safety of visitors, taking 16 guests into a secure area while the police were notified. Thankfully, the bears never posed a threat to the public since they were contained and no one was injured during the honey heist. As surveillance footage later revealed, Lucy was the mastermind behind breaching the food storage, leading to a chaotic yet amusing scene of bear siblings indulging in their favorite treat. With the incident now behind them, authorities continue to monitor the bears closely to prevent similar escapades in the future.
