In brief
Explosions shook Kyiv early Saturday, as the city grapples with increasing assaults in the ongoing conflict with Russia.
Loud explosions reverberated across Kyiv at approximately 5:50 a.m. local time on Saturday, coinciding with a countrywide alert that had warned of incoming ballistic missiles. Just moments after the air-raid alert had ended, the sounds of booms filled the air, followed by the wailing of air-raid sirens. In a post on Telegram, Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, confirmed the missile threat and urged residents to take shelter as the city’s air-defense systems activated in response. Soon after, he reported that emergency services were attending to the aftermath of a fire caused by the attacks. Reports from the city’s regional military administration indicate that at least four individuals have been killed in the incident. As the nearly three-year-long conflict continues, both Ukrainian and Russian forces have intensified their military operations in recent weeks. The situation remains fluid, with further developments anticipated in the unfolding story of the Russia-Ukraine war.
