A striking bronze statue of Melania Trump has mysteriously vanished from her hometown in Sevnica, Slovenia, leaving only its feet and a two-meter tall tree stump behind. Unveiled in September 2020 by artist Brad Downey, the statue's disappearance comes four months after her departure from the White House, further mystifying local authorities who are now treating it as a theft.

Originally, this tribute to Melania was crafted from wood by local artist Ales "Maxi" Zupevc in July 2019, but it met an unfortunate fate when it was set ablaze during a Fourth of July celebration. Downey, who created a bronze casting of the piece, aimed to make a more durable version; however, it seems that even this latest iteration was vulnerable to theft.

Local police are spearheading an investigation, with Downey suggesting that the statue's disappearance could be linked to the political climate associated with Trump’s potential re-election. In Sevnica, reactions are mixed; while authorities have condemned the act as an interference with public property, they admitted that the image of the former First Lady does not particularly evoke pride among locals.
