Authorities are currently investigating, identifying a 39-year-old woman as the lone suspect, although a motive has yet to be disclosed.

The assault occurred on the train platform between tracks 13 and 14, situated in front of a waiting long-distance train. As the busiest train station in Germany, Hamburg’s central station has a history of violence, leading the local government to declare the area a weapons-free zone. This declaration enhances the police's authority to conduct searches and apprehend potential offenders.

This incident marks the second significant knife attack in Germany within this week. Earlier, a suspect was apprehended in Bielefeld following a knife attack outside a bar, leaving five individuals injured. The 35-year-old man, who had entered Germany from Syria in 2023, initially possessed protective status and reportedly expressed support for the Islamic State via a translation app. During the Bielefeld incident, police discovered two long kitchen knives and an improvised weapon, alongside a gasoline bottle in a backpack tied to the suspect.
