A Bangladeshi air force training jet tragically crashed into the Milestone School and College in Dhaka, killing at least 27 people and injuring over 170 more. The harrowing incident occurred just after 1 PM local time, shortly after the F-7 jet had taken off. Year 10 student Farhan Hasan was among those present; he had just completed an exam when the aircraft struck.

"I saw the burning plane hit the building right in front of my eyes," Hassan recounted amid tears. "My best friend, whom I had just been with in the exam hall, died right in front of me." Witness accounts describe chaos as parents and students tried to escape the school campus, leading to further casualties.

Footage from the scene reveals a horrific sight of flames and thick smoke billowing from a two-storey building. Reports indicate that the pilot, Flight Lieutenant Md. Taukir Islam, was also killed in the crash. Local teachers who witnessed the incident reported hearing an explosion before an engulfing fire ensued, illustrating the terrifying reality of the scene.

As news of the tragedy spread, distraught families gathered near the school, praying for the safety of their loved ones. Many victims received medical attention at several hospitals, with considerable numbers suffering from severe burns. The National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery confirmed that most of the victims are minors, aged between 9 and 14.

In response to the disaster, the Bangladesh health ministry activated emergency services, deploying ambulances and volunteers to assist those affected. Witnesses reported large crowds gathering in the area, and residents led efforts to donate blood for the injured, showcasing the community's solidarity in a time of crisis.

The Bangladeshi government declared a day of mourning following the tragic event, with national flags flown at half-mast. Muhammad Yunus, the interim leader of Bangladesh, expressed his condolences and pledged thorough investigations into the incident to prevent future tragedies. An investigation committee has been established to assess the cause of the crash, with reports indicating that the pilot attempted to direct the plane away from populated areas after encountering mechanical issues.

As the community grapples with this profound loss, support continues to pour in from various sectors of society, reflecting the resilience and compassion of the nation in the face of calamity.
