Ghana Mourning: Tragic Helicopter Crash Claims Two Ministers and Six Lives

The nation faces a deep tragedy as Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed perish in a helicopter crash.

A military helicopter crash in Ghana's Ashanti region has left Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and six others dead, prompting national mourning and calls for investigation.

Ghana is reeling from a devastating incident as the nation's Defence Minister, Edward Omane Boamah, and Environment, Science and Technology Minister, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, tragically lost their lives in a military helicopter crash. This catastrophic event occurred in the central Ashanti region, with a total of eight victims, including six additional individuals who were also aboard the ill-fated flight.

During a press conference, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah expressed profound sorrow over the incident, labeling it as a "national tragedy." The helicopter, which took off from the capital, Accra, at 09:12 local time, was en route to Obuasi for an important national event when it suddenly went "off the radar." At this moment, investigators have not confirmed the cause of the crash.

In response to the loss, the Chief of Staff announced that flags across the nation would fly at half-mast. He conveyed condolences on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and the government, extending sympathies to the families of the deceased servicemen who served their country.

Among the victims were not only the two prominent ministers but also Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, the Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Agriculture Minister, along with Samuel Sarpong, Vice-Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress party. The aircraft's crew included Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah. The nation undergoes a painful moment, with many hoping for swift answers regarding the circumstances surrounding this grievous loss.
