During a press conference, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah expressed profound sorrow over the incident, labeling it as a "national tragedy." The helicopter, which took off from the capital, Accra, at 09:12 local time, was en route to Obuasi for an important national event when it suddenly went "off the radar." At this moment, investigators have not confirmed the cause of the crash.
In response to the loss, the Chief of Staff announced that flags across the nation would fly at half-mast. He conveyed condolences on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama and the government, extending sympathies to the families of the deceased servicemen who served their country.
Among the victims were not only the two prominent ministers but also Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, the Deputy National Security Coordinator and former Agriculture Minister, along with Samuel Sarpong, Vice-Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress party. The aircraft's crew included Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
