Heartfelt Tribute: Diogo Jota’s Wife Remembers Him One Month After Tragic Death
Rute Cardoso honors her late husband, Liverpool’s Diogo Jota, with a touching tribute on Instagram marking their one-month wedding anniversary following his fatal car crash.
Rute Cardoso, the wife of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota, has honored her late husband with a poignant tribute on what would have marked their first month of marriage—just weeks after his tragic death. Jota was killed in a devastating car crash on July 3, in Cernadilla, Spain, when a tire blowout caused the Lamborghini he was riding in with his younger brother, Andre Silva, to collide and ignite.
On her Instagram account, Cardoso shared three cherished photographs from their wedding on June 22, accompanied by heartfelt words that read, "one month of our 'until death do us part," and expressed that she would be "forever" his.
Diogo Jota, aged 28, joined Liverpool in 2020, where he netted 65 goals over 182 appearances. He contributed to the team's triumphs, including winning the FA Cup and League Cup in 2022, along with securing the Premier League title last season. Following his untimely death, Liverpool FC made the decision to retire the number 20 shirt in Jota's honor.
In addition to this, a mural featuring the number 20 and heartfelt messages from fans has been erected near Anfield, reflecting the collective grief and respect from the community for their fallen star.
