This decline marks the sharpest drop in three years and follows mounting backlash against CEO Elon Musk due to his political affiliations.

As Tesla's shares tumbled in response to the disappointing sales report, analysts noted that the firm is facing intensified competition from Chinese rival BYD. However, the backlash against Musk’s outspoken political actions appears to be a key contributing factor. His leadership in President Donald Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which aims to reduce federal expenses and workforce, has sparked significant criticism and protests globally.

Tesla's struggles have been further amplified by large-scale demonstrations, including "Tesla Takedown" protests that have erupted at showrooms in the United States and Europe. Identifiable signs of dissent have included vandalized vehicles, while Trump has openly condemned such actions, labeling them "domestic terrorism."
