Marcos Family Member Faces Alcohol Ban After In-Flight Altercation

In a tumultuous incident on December 29, 2023, Analisa Josefa Corr, the daughter of the late Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos, found herself embroiled in a drunken brawl on a Jetstar flight from Hobart to Sydney. Ms. Corr, along with her husband James Alexander Corr, has been accused of engaging in a "disturbance" marked by "disorderly behaviour" while under the influence of alcohol.

According to police reports, the altercation escalated when Ms. Corr allegedly grabbed and shook another passenger as she exited the airplane's toilet. The couple was subsequently escorted off the flight and now faces multiple charges, including the failure to comply with safety instructions and consuming alcohol not provided by Jetstar staff.

Initially pleading not guilty, Ms. Corr and her husband entered into a conditional agreement that includes a ban on alcohol consumption while on bail. If convicted, they could potentially face fines of up to A$13,750 (approximately $8,520; £6,925) for each charge. Moreover, Ms. Corr has denied allegations of assaulting a fellow passenger — an offence that carries a maximum prison sentence of two years.

At age 53, Ms. Corr is noted to be the daughter of Ferdinand Marcos and former Sydney model Evelin Hegyesi, making her the half-sister of current Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. James Alexander Corr, age 45, is reported to be a former soldier, corroborating a mix of backgrounds amid the couple's recent scandal.

In a statement, Australian Federal Police (AFP) Sergeant Luke Stockwell urged travelers to practice discretion at airports, noting the potential for grave consequences such as hefty fines or imprisonment. The AFP plans to ramp up patrols during holiday periods to ensure compliance with safety regulations and curb harmful behaviours among travelers.

While Jetstar has refrained from commenting directly on this incident, a spokesperson emphasized the airline's zero-tolerance policy towards any actions that compromise passenger and crew safety.
