Tensions Surge as Pakistan Suspends Visas for Indians Following Kashmir Attack

In response to a deadly militant attack on tourists in Kashmir, Pakistan has implemented a series of retaliatory measures, including suspending visas for Indian nationals.

Amid escalating tensions following a gunmen assault in Indian-administered Kashmir that left 26 tourists dead, Pakistan has suspended visa provisions for Indians while implementing other diplomatic measures.

Pakistan's political landscape has intensified dramatically after the recent violent event in Pahalgam, where gunmen attacked a group of tourists, leading to multiple fatalities. In retaliation, Islamabad has halted all visa issuance for Indian nationals and expelled several Indian diplomats. The continuity of this diplomatic feud was further highlighted when Islamabad closed its airspace to Indian flights and suspended trade with India.

The incident drew a strong response from India, with authorities identifying three suspects linked to the attack, two of whom are reportedly Pakistani nationals affiliated with the militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Although Pakistani officials have vehemently denied any involvement in the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed to hunt down the perpetrators and their supporters, promising them severe repercussions.

Delhi's diplomatic measures include the immediate closure of the Attari-Wagah border with Pakistan and a suspension of visa services for Pakistani citizens. In a notable response, Pakistan announced its own rejection of India’s suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, a critical water-sharing agreement between the two nations, warning that interference might be viewed as an act of war.

Since the attack, approximately 1,500 individuals in Kashmir have been detained for investigations. Following a regional shutdown, businesses and educational institutions have started reopening, although the aftermath of the assault has led to reports of harassment directed towards Kashmiri students in various Indian locations. Amidst the rising tensions, an all-party meeting in Jammu and Kashmir expressed deep sorrow over the brutal attack, as the victims' families mourn their losses with heartfelt farewells.
