Ukraine Strikes Crimea Bridge Again, Heightening Tensions in Ongoing Conflict

Ukrainian forces reportedly hit the Crimean bridge for the third time, emphasizing ongoing conflict and intelligence efforts.

This latest attack on the critical Kerch Strait Bridge highlights Ukraine's continued focus on disrupting Russian supply lines amidst escalating military operations.

In a bold statement of defiance, Ukraine has claimed responsibility for a third strike on the Kerch Strait Bridge, a key infrastructure connecting the Crimean Peninsula to Russia. The latest attack occurred early on June 3, 2025, as the Security Service of Ukraine (S.B.U) announced they had successfully detonated explosives strategically placed on underwater support structures beneath the bridge.

While the exact damage from the explosion, equivalent to roughly 1,100 kg of TNT, is yet to be assessed, the S.B.U asserted that the bridge is now in "emergency condition." Reports indicate there were no civilian casualties during the operation, suggesting precision targeting was employed. The state agency released a statement along with video footage purportedly documenting the detonation incident.

This strike follows a significant military operation executed by Ukraine just two days prior, which involved deep penetration into Russian territory, focusing on crippling its strategic bombing capabilities. The attack's timing underlines Ukraine's ambitious and aggressive military strategy as the conflict continues to unfold.

In response to the recent strike, Russian state news agency RIA Novosti reported that the bridge was temporarily closed for several hours, although traffic was resumed by mid-afternoon according to regional monitoring applications. The Kerch Strait Bridge, which spans 12 miles, serves as essential supply route for Russian forces operating in southern Ukraine and holds considerable symbolic value for President Vladimir Putin, who inaugurated its opening in 2018.

The bridge has been a target since the start of the conflict, with previous attacks including a truck bomb that caused substantial damage in October 2022, and a maritime drone strike targeting support structures just last year. Following these attempts, Russian authorities have reinforced the bridge with additional defenses to counteract further attacks.

Journalist Marc Santora, who has been closely reporting from Ukraine since the onset of this war, provided insights into these unfolding events, indicating that the situation around the bridge and overall conflict remains fluid and complex amidst ongoing military operations from both sides.
