In a recent incident in Washington, D.C., a U.S. Park Police officer has been released from the hospital following an ambush shooting. The officer, whose identity remains undisclosed, was shot in the shoulder during an investigation on Monday evening. According to authorities, the officer was driving an unmarked vehicle in a neighborhood close to the Maryland border when two assailants opened fire.
Park Police Chief Scott Brecht reported that the attack appears to have been targeted, with interim Washington Police Chief Jeffery Carroll suggesting that the gunmen might have been aware that the victim was a law enforcement officer.
The ongoing investigation into the shooting is being conducted jointly by the U.S. Park Police and the Metropolitan Police Department, with federal officials offering additional support.
