On November 15, 2025, a tragic explosion occurred at the Nowgam police station in Indian-administered Kashmir, resulting in nine fatalities and 32 injuries due to a stockpile of confiscated explosives that accidentally detonated.

The timing of the explosion comes shortly after a car blast in Delhi, labeled by the government as a terror incident. The accidental explosion at the police station happened at approximately 23:20 local time (17:50 GMT) while the explosives, which were seized from northern Haryana earlier that week, were being prepared for forensic examination.

Nalin Prabhat, the region's director general of police, confirmed that the blast was a result of mishandling, categorically stating it was not a terrorist attack. Any other speculation into the cause of this incident is unnecessary, he remarked during a press briefing.

The explosion inflicted severe damage to the police station and surrounding buildings, with reports indicating that vehicles were engulfed in flames and body parts were scattered as far as 100-200 meters from the site.

Most of the victims were police officers, forensic personnel, two crime scene photographers, and a tailor who was present. Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor, has expressed his condolences via social media and ordered a probe into the incident.

Deeply anguished by the loss of precious lives due to the extremely tragic accidental blast at Nowgam police station in Srinagar. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured, Sinha stated.
